Biography of Per Wimmer
Per Wimmer is a Danish financier, entrepreneur, adventurer, astronaut, philanthropist and author. Wimmer Family Office was founded in 2011 with a focus on a wealth protection strategy, based upon a proprietary ETF trading strategy, with a trend following overlay (CTA hedge funds) and allocation to absolute return hedge funds and real estate.
Prior to founding his own family office, Per held senior roles at Goldman Sachs, Collins Stewart and MAN Group. Per holds a M.P. degree from Harvard University with concentrations in business, finance and international relations and received the Don K. Price Award for academic excellence. Per also holds a LL.M. from the University of London, B.A. / M.A. degrees in law from the University of Copenhagen and a M.A. from the College of Europe.
During his two years at Harvard, he became the co-founder and first president of the Harvard Scandinavian Society, promoting Scandinavian culture and facilitating networking between alumni, prospective and current students. He served as a student member of the Harvard MPA Admissions Committee; participated in “Project Outreach” – an HBS volunteer project to assist the elderly and disadvantaged in the Boston area and was a winning team member in the 1998 Annual Graduate School Debate Competition, organised by the Leadership and Ethics Forum, moderated by Senator Alan Simpson. Before graduating, he was selected as the only non-US citizen for PMI Program destined to work in the White House for President Bill Clinton.
Per has also published four books to date, including Wall Street – about financial market bubbles, The Green Bubble – focused on the future of green energy, and the award-winning autobiography The Sky is No Limit, published in three languages and received the ‘Book of the Year’ award at the Business Book Awards in 2024. He also published a book, in French, on the future of Europe (“Vers une Europe à la carte: Analyse des dérogations après Maastricht, PIE, 1995).
Through WimmerSpace, Per has assisted in producing and acted in several film documentaries, such as Wimmer Over Everest, The Secret Millionaire, Undercover Angel (National Geographic) and Elon Musk: The Real Iron Man (Amazon, Netflix).
Per is a passionate adventurer. Per has lived with the Indians of the Amazon forest; piloted a modified F-104 Starfighter Jet on Black Rock Desert, Nevada, in a land speed record attempt; driven high-speed cars on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah; visited the remote Easter Islands; been diving in the Galapagos Islands; been trekking the Inka Trail to Macchu Pichu; been skiing at the highest skiing facility in the world at 5.500 m in Bolivia; walking on live volcanos in Hawaii; been hang gliding over the beaches of Rio de Janeiro; been riding cross-country USA on a Harley Davidson motorbike and back (total of 9.000 miles) and been diving with sharks in Fiji. Per’s travels have led him to visited more than 85 countries.
Per did his own “Top Gun” experience in 2022 by flying out in the Pacific Ocean on a C2 Greyhound Navy plane, did an arrested landing and a subsequent catapult take-off from the US aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.
Per is deeply passionate about space exploration and is a Fellow at the New York Explorers Club, a Fellow at the Royal Geographic Society, Companion Member at The Royal Aeronautic Society and is an Honorary Advisory Board Member of The Scientific Exploration Society. Per’s professional accomplishments have been recognised through numerous awards, including Best Founder of the Year at the Global 100 Awards as well as Personality of the Year at the International Investment Awards.
Per has completed his space training, including weightlessness/zero-g training, flying Russian MIG-25 over Siberia at an altitude of 80.000 feet (24 Km) at Mach 3 (3 times the speed of sound) and L-39 fighter jets, passed medical exams and carried out space launch simulations in both Russian and American centrifuges.
Per is a regular space expert commentator on Sky News, BBC and other international broadcasters. Per featured on BBC World “The Travel Show, and “Apollo 11 50th Anniversary and the Future of Space.” On Nov 30 2018, Per Wimmer was front cover of the Financial Times with the headline: “The Ultimate High Flyers.”
Per is also fluent in multiple languages including Danish, English, French, Spanish, and some German.
Per is passionate about supporting philanthropic efforts, working alongside charitable organisations to inspire children to pursue their dreams. Over the years through Wimmer Space, Per has supported numerous charities, both through organised school programs and on an ad hoc basis. For instance, when skydiving Mount Everest, WimmerSpace supported two local orphanages in Nepal via UNICEF and Global Angels. Any new adventure Per contemplates would always have a local and/or relevant charity attached in view of tying in with the WimmerSpace mission supporting charitable needs and inspiring children to live out their dreams as Per makes his adventure dreams reality.
